Jojo Rabbit

Updated: Jul 23, 2020

I think Jojo Rabbit is one of my favourite movies of 2020 so far!

Jojo Rabbit is about a young German boy (Jojo Rabbit) whose dream is to become a Nazi and Hitler’s guard. He even goes to “Nazi camp” to train for this, although he’s not very good. Things start to go wrong when he finds out his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their house. Also, Jojo has Hitler as an imaginary friend.

Taika Waititi did such an amazing job! The story is so good and it keeps you engaged from beginning to end. It’s really funny, it has moments that will make you cry and the acting is incredible from everyone.

Hitler (Taika Waititi) will make you laugh - who knew that was possible. Sam Rockwell will make you believe that anyone can rise up to become a hero, no matter where you have come from. Scarlett Johansson will make you believe in doing what’s right, and Roman Griffin Davis will pull your heartstrings in every direction.

The style of the film reminds me a bit of Wes Anderson, with the chosen colour palettes - the use of colour is really beautiful. I love how it goes from really colourful and bright, and as the story starts progressing with the discovery of the Jewish girl, and truths about the Nazi regime are revealed, the colours are toned down, and become more muted, which fits in perfectly with everything that is happening.

Honestly, this should have won best picture over Parasite in my opinion.

And that’s my take 🤍
